All Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants are highly skilled, educated and licensed. Each session is between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the needs of the patient and availability of the schedule. Physical Therapy is a clinical and evidence based multi-modal health care, wellness and rehabilitative experience aimed at the diagnosis and treatment of individuals of all ages who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Physical therapy treatments include a variety of techniques designed to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

Movement is the basis for function and Physical Therapy aims to diagnose and manage movement dysfunction, enhance physical and functional abilities; restore, maintain, and promote not only optimal physical function but optimal wellness and fitness and optimal quality of life as it relates to movement and health. Physical Therapy treatments yield the best outcomes when incorporating an individualized progression of both passive and active treatments. Such treatments include Manual Therapies, Therapeutic Exercise, Neuromuscular Re-Education and a mix of pain management modalities. Manual Therapy is a highly skilled hands on set of techniques that help to reduce pain, muscle spasm and tension, and to restore soft tissue mobility, and joint range of motion. Such treatments include:

Soft Tissue Mobilization (STM), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Myofascial Release (MFR)

Similar, but more advanced than traditional massage, STM, IASTM and MFR uses the clinician's hands and/or a variety of tools to improve circulation, reduce pain, alleviate soft tissue and myofascial restrictions, and decrease excessive muscle spasm

Trigger Point Therapies

Including Strain Counterstrain (SCS) or Positional Release, Static Pin & Stretch and Active Release, trigger points are a naturally occurring neuromusculoskeletal phenomenon that happens to essentially everyone in predictable patterns throughout the body. Certain anatomical locations and aspects of muscle are prone to becoming hyper-sensitized and stiff nodules within the muscle fibers that cause pain, both locally and remotely, muscle tension or spasm, mobility restrictions and impairments in muscle activation. Trigger point therapies can help to eliminate these dysfunctions and restore normal mobility and reduce pain.

Static & Dynamic or Functional Joint Mobilizations

Joints, just like muscles, can become stiff and guarded from both muscular and neurodynamic origins. Joints can become stiff due to injury, swelling, muscle tension, or periods of immobility. Additionally, the Central Nervous System can also generate joint restrictions through protective guarding mechanisms. Various levels of force, or stretch, both statically and with movement can be applied directly to the joints in an effort to reduce the stiff and guarded aspects of joint restrictions to help improve overall mobility.

Therapeutic Exercise

Both at home through Home Exercise Programs (HEPs) are an excellent and necessary components of any recovery or wellness program. While Manual Therapies are often a necessary precursor to active treatments in order to open a window of opportunity to start moving again, ultimately, movement through exercise is what will restore and maintain lasting function. Exercise comes in many forms, including traditional stretching and mobility activities, strength and endurance training, as well as those designed for motor control, stability, balance, body mechanics and kinesthetic body awareness or proprioception. All exercise programs are individualized to meet each patient's needs and abilities and are designed to progress towards an established function or goal. Pain Management Modalities are passive treatments intended for adjunct use only to supplement more formal aspects of care such as Manual Therapy and Exercise.

Pain Management Modalities

Mechanical Traction or Decompression Therapy is designed to alleviate disc, joint and nerve compression within the spine that may be causing local or even pain that radiates into the extremities

Electrical Stimulation, aka TENS, which helps to temporarily block painful nerve signal

Cryotherapy, or ice, which helps to slow tissue metabolism to prevent injury and also to reduce nerve conduction to reduce pain.

Thermal Therapies including moist heat or Ultrasound which helps to soothe stiff, tense, or sensitized tissues Physical Therapy treats an array of conditions including but not limited to:

  • Chronic Low Back Pain • Acute soft tissue and joint injuries such as strains or sprains, eg "Rotator Cuff Tear"
  • Chronic mobility restrictions or General Deconditioning
  • Tendonopathy or Tendonosis, eg "Tennis Elbow" or "Plantar Fasciopathy"
  • Motor Vehicle Accidents including Whiplash Associated Disorder
  • Headaches
  • Spinal Pain including acute or chronic neck and low back pain
  • Radiating nerve pain disorders such as Spinal Stenosis, Disc Hernations or "Sciatica"
  • Post-Surgical Rehab such as Joint Replacements, Tendon Repairs, Arthroscopies, Fusions and Fracture Reconstructions
  • Sport Performance training
  • Balance and fall prevention
  • Osteoarthritis related pain and dysfunction
  • Impaired Posture

Spinal Decompression

Non-surgical spinal decompression is effective treatment for a variety of disc related conditions. Negative pressure on the disc and involved nerves can allow healing to occur without the need for more invasive and costly procedures. Treatment is available for both the neck as well as lower back.

Acupuncture

Dating back over 4,500 years, acupuncture is recognized as a powerful agent in disease prevention. Its purpose is to strengthen the immune system, improve metabolic function and enhance your quality of life. It works naturally with your body, harmonizing it into balance until a state of wellness is achieved.
